Summary

Energy Communities (ECs) represent a collaborative and innovative approach to energy generation, distribution and consumption, focusing on local, sustainable and decentralized models. These communities are formed by groups of citizens (households), businesses and/or public entities that collectively participate in the generation, consumption, management and/or sharing of renewable energy.

Our project proposal’s main objective is the establishment of an excellence and education centre (CEED-ECR https://ceed-ecr.ase.ro/) in Romania to research and develop advanced technologies and models to support transition to ECs and potential collaborations with the private sector. Our common research agenda will follow the main domains and measurable target indicators in accordance with SNCISI 2022-2027.

The specific objectives of our initiative are:

(1) Multidisciplinary research for the development of ECs in Romania;

(2) Provide training and knowledge transfer to young researchers in the national research and innovation system, including those from the diaspora;

(3) Create synergies at the CEED-ECR level and beyond, among Romanian young researchers to develop cutting-edge technologies, collaborations with the private sector and new initiatives (project proposals, common publications), involving international experts. As a result, we will provide international and interdisciplinary expertise for developing ECs in Romania.
